Michael Vick Throwing But Not Practicing
Michael Vick will throw a bit today, according to head coach Andy Reid, but will not practice with two broken ribs.
NOVACARE COMPLEX, PHILADELPHIA, Pa. — Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick threw yesterday and will throw a little bit today and tomorrow, but is not yet returning to practice according to head coach Andy Reid. Vick missed Sunday’s game against the Giants with two broken ribs. Vince Young will take all of the first team snaps today as the Eagles prepare for the New England Patriots.
“He threw a little bit yesterday, not much, but just enough to test it,” said head coach Andy Reid of Vick. “It’s getting better, it’s just not there yet.”
Jeremy Maclin, who leads all Eagles wide receivers with 46 catches for 612 yards, will practice this afternoon after recovering from a shoulder sprain and hamstring strain. Fellow wideout DeSean Jackson remains sidelined by a foot contusion, though.
The Eagles offense will need all of the key parts it can get as the Birds face a Patriots defense that gives up a lot of yards, but fewer points. Since New England is one of the highest scoring offenses in the league, Philadelphia needs to be able to light up the scoreboard Sunday as well.
Reid said there’s no real timeline for Vick. It remains a process of taking it one day at a time and not setting expectations on when he’ll return.
“I didn’t hope, I’m just taking it day by day,” said Reid. “So just, you can’t guess on these things, you just have to go with whats there and as far as symptoms and see what he can do and give him a little bit each day on how he feels.”
Young led an 18-play, 80-yard game-winning drive against the Giants last week and finished the game 23-of-36 for 258 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions. While Young has a reputation for pulling out wins, he hasn’t historically been at the helm of teams that have had explosive offenses. That could be a problem in a game that is projected as a shootout.
Young’s teams have scored 30 or more points in just 11 of his 48 starts, or 23 percent of the time. Michael Vick’s Eagles squads have gone for 30 or more in eight of his 20 starts here (4o percent) and, including his days as a Falcon, in 26 of 87 career starts (30 percent).
